| Thallus crustose, grey-white to pale creamy white or dark grey, continuous, rimose to bullate-areolate, to 6 cm wide, 0.15–0.25 mm thick. Areolae rounded to irregular, 0.2–0.3 mm wide, uneven, lacking isidia and soredia. Prothallus white or absent. Apothecia common, scattered, sessile, with a constricted base, 0.7–1.5 mm wide; disc ±plane or weakly concave, round or irregular, glossy black, epruinose; thalline exciple persistent, thick, smooth or crenulate; proper exciple poorly defined, 50–100 µm thick. Epihymenium violet-black. Hymenium purple-brown to purple-violet, 110–140 µm thick, not inspersed. Hypothecium orange-brown, 50–70 µm thick. Ascospores ellipsoidal, colourless, thick-walled, 12–17 × 6–9 µm. Conidia filiform, straight, 14–20 × 1.0–1.2 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, KC+ pink, P–, UV+ blue-white; containing atranorin (major), alectoronic acid (major), ±physodic acid (trace), ±α-collatolic acid. |

| Common in W.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic.; grows on wood and bark in undisturbed habitats. Also in South America. | ||
